Abstract:
The article contains a history of the formation and development of the electoral system of the URT, a unique union state, and also a review of difficulties and challenges of this process. The author describes the activity of political parties in the country after the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1992. Special attention is paid to the political struggle (that deepens during elections) between the ruling party CCM and the opposition party CUF, which unites the partisans of Zanzibar’s greater autonomy.
