REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMITTED MANUSCRIPTS
TYPES OF PUBLICATIONS
Articles and other materials should be submitted to the Editorial Office of the “Journal of the Institute for African Studies” via the website (click on the “SUBMIT YOUR ARTICLE” button on our web page on Internet) or by e-mail to uch-zap@inafr.ru.
When sending by e-mail, please indicate author’s full name, the official name of the place of work, the address of the place of work, position, academic degree, contact details of the author: address, telephone numbers, email address.
Authors must confirm that the article proposed for publication has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted for review and publication in another journal (or provide an appropriate explanation in the Comment section). Otherwise, the manuscript cannot be accepted for reviewing.
Please note that the authors are responsible for the selection and accuracy of the facts, quotes, economic statistics, proper names, place names, and other information, as well as for the use of data not intended for open press. By submitting the manuscript of his or her article to the editors, the author implicitly agrees not to publish it, in whole or in part, in any other publication without the consent of the chief editor.
Unpublished manuscripts are not reviewed or returned to authors.
The publication process in this Journal is free for all authors.
The Journal does not charge any publication fees to authors, including those for peer-review management, manuscript processing, journal production, open-access, online hosting and archiving.
The Journal does not charge article processing fees in any form.
Manuscripts proposed for publication in the “Journal of the Institute for African Studies” should meet the following requirements:
- correspond to the subject (specialization) of the Journal (political, economic and social processes on the African continent, history and cultural anthropology of African countries and peoples, Russian-African cooperation) or more general problems of the world economy, international relations, political science, history, social and cultural anthropology which have a direct impact on the development of the countries of the continent (see https://africajournal.ru/en/aims-and-scope/);
- comply with the Ethical Principles of the authors of the “Journal of the Institute for African Studies” (see http://africajournal.ru/en/for-authors/ethical-principles-of-authors-of-scientific-articles/);
- be prepared in accordance with the Authors’ Guidelines for the “Journal of the Institute for African Studies” (see https://africajournal.ru/en/for-authors/authors-guidelines/)
- demonstrate a profound knowledge of the current state of scientific research on the topic covered in the manuscript;
- contain elements of scientific and informational novelty.
The Journal publishes the following types of publications:
1) Scientific (research or review) article – the main type of publication, 6,000-9,000 words, including a Bibliography (at least 20 items). The article consists of several thematic sections.
2) Review –several short reviews are published in each issue of the Journal (3-4 pages, maximum 1,500 words). Reviews of academic books published in the year of publication of the review, or in the previous two years (not earlier!), especially on the issues of the thematic issues, are welcomed. In contrast, the reviews of books published more than 30 years ago are placed in the «Academic Heritage» regular section.
3) Academic interview – within the “Schools of Thought Africa” section, we regularly publish academic interviews with leading African scholars, including an overview of the main scientific schools and works on the topic, and an extensive Bibliography.
4) Editorial – the editors periodically post short information materials (2-5 pages) dedicated to important events in the academic life of the Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences.
