Trade Unions in East African Countries: the Struggle for Survival

Author:

Natalia Matveeva

Abstract:

The article concludes that East African Trade Unions of today are weak and insignificant force in the social system. They function under pressure of the authorities and constant violation of worker’s rights by their employers. In condition of crisis and high level of unemployment trade unions are unable to protect workers from dismission.

Future will show whether trade unions could overcome obstacles, which now prevent the organization of real trade union movement in the countries considered in the article.
