Rules of Design of Articles for "Journal of the Institute for African Studies"

Peculiarities of Publication in Foreign Language

The JOURNAL OF THE INSTITUTE FOR AFRICAN STUDIES (Uchenye zapiski Instituta Afriki RAN) applies standards of design used by international databases of bibliographic description and scientific citation of Scopus and Web of Science. Please carefully read the following requirements for the design of manuscripts and follow them rigorously. The editors reserve the right to return the article to the author for revision in case of its inconsistency with these standards of design.

We remind you that the authors are responsible for the selection and reliability of the facts, citations, economic-statistical data, names of their own, geographical names and other information, as well as for the use of classified data.

All incoming articles, except for editorial materials clearly identified as such, are subject to mandatory review by independent experts (blind, double-blind), checking for plagiarism and other forms of violation of ethical standards (see: ethical principles of the authors).

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Manuscripts should be provided in .doc format (Word 1997-2003).

The total volume of the article – no more than 1 author’s sheet (40 thousand characters, taking into account the gaps).

Page parameters: top margin 2 cm, bottom 2 cm, left 3 cm, right 1.5 cm.

The font of the text of the article is Times New Roman, 12 pins.

Indent the first line – 1,25.

The line spacing is one and a half lines.

The title of the article is 14 size, bold (p / w) in the center of uppercase.

©, year, surname of the author (s) – 14 size p / n in the center line.

Subheadings inside the article – 12 p / x size in the center of the line.

Footnotes paginate: (comments, clarifications, additions, etc.) in the text of the article, tables and legend to the drawings are given at the end of the page. The font is 11 sizes, the line spacing is single, without indentation.

Endnotes are not used.

All abbreviations must be spelled out when first used.

Names of firms, organizations, etc. – in the original language with a capital letter; Russian – in quotes, foreign – without quotes in italics (for example, PJSC Gazprom, OJSC Russian Railways (OJSC RZD), Siemens, Total).

Graphs, charts and so on. – only in black and white.

Pictures, photos, maps, in addition to the presentation in .doc format (Word 1997-2003) in the article, should be converted to JPG or TIF format (at least 150 dpi). Each picture should be in a separate file.

Abstract. An expanded annotation is italicized. The volume is 250-400 words (about 2500 characters).

The abstract is an independent source of information, including a description of the main topic of the article, the subject, the object, the purpose of the study and its results. It should define the novelty of the work. The abstract allows a reader not to refer to the text of the article to determine its main content, its relevance, and is also used in information systems, including automated systems for searching documents and information.

Quotations from the article is not used in the annotation.

The results of the work are described accurately and informatively. The main theoretical and experimental results, actual data, discovered interconnections and patterns are presented. Preference is given to new results, important discoveries, conclusions, and also data of practical importance.

References to sources in the text of the article, tables, legend to them, to figures, graphs and diagrams – in square brackets through an non-breaking space (Ctrl + Shift + Space) in Arabic numerals. Numbering is continuous throughout the article in the order, starting with their first use. When quoting, specify, if any, the volume and the source page (for example, [29, v. 1, p. 5]). The full references of the sources is given at the end of the article.

Square brackets […] – are used only in references to the sources. In all other cases, parentheses.

Sources in the list should not be repeated.

The description of the articles indicates the pages of the publication.

In the book (in the monograph, the collection …) the place of publication should be indicated as well as publishing house, year, total number of pages. If the publication has DOI, ISBN, then they must be specified.

Sources in Russian are given in Latin transcription and translation. Sources in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and other Eastern languages ​​are given in translation with the parentheses of the original language.

The title of the article cited is in direct type, the place of its publication (title of the book, newspaper, magazine, collection of articles) is italic.

A reference to an electronic source or document is permissible when there is no printed analogue. The electronic address and the date of reference to the document in parentheses (the number, month and year, when the author of the article making the link, opened this document) should be indicated. The period after the electronic reference and the date of circulation should not be put.
